Liscia, sabbiata, mordenzata, anodizzata, idrofila. La rugosità della superficie decide quanto in fretta l'osso si attacca e, secondo alcuni, quanto è esposta alla perimplantite. Le revisioni di Albrektsson e Wennerberg sono il punto di partenza.
